I would like to begin is that I mainly collect fossil precambrian to carboniferous era. Interested in various Lagerstatte Biotas, soft tissue preservation type fossil and other weird creatures from the past. I am just a hobby fossil collector ... maybe to an extreme. I have expertise in capturing fossil images down t 5 micron resolution with some recent constructs. I just have fun with this hobby ...

Go on then, I'll join in. I'm technically a early sponge specialist (Precambrian to Silurian), but also dabble in echinoderms (especially crinoids and asterozoans), palaeoscolecidans and other worms, problematica, and palaeoecology (particularly the Ordovician Radiation). Very fond of Lagerstatten, especially new ones, and starting to look as though I might get my teeth into several of the major Cambrian ones (at least the sponges).
I've got a general interest in entire faunas, and more particularly the bits that everyone else ignores... so trilobites are cute, but sea cucumbers and dendroid graptolites are much more fun!
Main field areas at the moment are Wales (obviously), Morocco (Fezouata Biota) and South China.

Hey thats great Joe... Much in what you collect I also collect except for the sponges.... I got a sea cucumber from the Mazon Biota in transit.... I will post it when it arrives.

Hmm, okay, my geological interests. I can split this in two parts: professional and amateur:
At the moment I am doing my Ph.D. on the effects of carbon dioxide and brine on wellbore system behaviour (field of experimental rock deformation). At the laboratory I work in, we use large machines and furnaces to reach experimental conditions representative for the conditions that prevail deep within the Earth (in my specific case, about 5 km depth). This kind of research involves mainly fluid-rock interaction, thermodynamics, mechanics, hydro(geo)logy and physicochemical petrology.
More applicable for this forum, I am also interested in paleobotany and amateur fossil plant collector. Due to proximity of outcrop locations the bulk of my collection consists of Carboniferous age fossils, however, my interest encompasses all era, though with a special interest in the Carboniferous to Jurassic. The frond architecture of pteridosperms is something I like to work on.

Now that is an interesting mix... paleoflor... I am a bit of an odd duck with degrees in Biochemistry, Biology and Ceramic Engineering.... I work as a process engineer / R&D / IT guy melting rock to molten state +2000C in electric arc furnaces and the company is the largest North American producer of ceramic formulated products. .. collect fossils for last 6 yr and constructed computers and optic devices as hobby.... for the last +20 yrs.

I grow up in the Tennessee Valley and had a famous crinoid site in my back yard where I met many paleontologists, so my hobby became fossil collecting. I like to get out and enjoy the day and finding a nice fossil for my type collection is a plus. Having lunch with the people I meet in the areas I collect fossils from is a great plus too. The Paleozoic is all around me, mostly Mississippian and Pennsylvanian, with some Silurian, Ordovician, and a little Devonian and Cambrian. To the West and southwest we can collect the Cretaceous of the Mississippi embayment.

I started out working on Silurian graptolites, but was dragged into the Ordovician. I now work on exceptional preservation, palaeoecology, worms and graptolites, not necessarily all together.
I often find fossil sponges and echinoderms, and give them all to Joe.

Hi Lucy: I am really happy that you are posting... It has be such a long while as I waited as you and Joe were absent from this forum 6 months and I packed it up and left... but now you are back and I am glad you are back!
