My nice Brigantian shale has been producing some good mainstream stuff and a few oddities. I think this is a chonetid brachiopod but this is the only one we've seen from here like this (credit to my wife again!) 20mm across Attachments:

Very odd. I suspect it's a productid rather than a chonetid (the spines on those are mostly from the hinge line, aren't they?), as this one has some spines arising from the shell surface. Plus productids are everywhere at this time, and most of them are somewhat spiny, like the fabulously named Horridonia horridus.

Thanks Joe, you're absolutely right, shows what I know about brachiopods! Being flattened fooled me, most of the brachs from here are 3D like this 6cm spiriferid. Attachments:
