Hi Joe Botting
If you look on the search engines, fossil forums or fossils etc., your forum does not show up, I use many search engines alot and have never seen this forum listed
your forum suffers from Obscurity
unless pleecan let us know on another forum I would not have known this forum existed
I think you are going to have to the word "Fossils" "Fossil" in the title or somewhere for the search engines to list you, so others will find youall
Thank You Hi from the south it is snowing tonight

Hi Joe,
I see you have the homepage link in your ukfossils profile. I don't think many members actually look at homepage links. Why not put a link in your posts, on ukf?

Good points people... we need to get the work out about this forum... maybe face book? Tell your friends... why not append the words ( fossil invertebrate site) after the Title... that should cause more hits on the search engine.... as most people use search engines to look for topics of interest..... Archimedes is right. PL

Thanks all - good points indeed! I should say that this forum started life solely as a tool for people using the main www.asoldasthehills.org site, based mostly on the fossils of Mid Wales. That was always going to be a small group, but it was smaller than expected, and nothing ever happened until enthiusiastic people from further afield joined in. Since then it's been a little bit uncertain of what it's for, but Peter's efforts seem to have turned it into a much more general forum and given it new life. So, anything and everything to support that is good, but unless there's a general desire to include younger things, a Palaeozoic invertebrate focus would be good.

I am going to make certain to contribute at least 1 posting per week.... I got lots of interesting material to show and I will also start posting on techniques to image tiny things without a Microscope... surprise surprise... In fact I now have bypass my microscopes and am capable to capture fossil image detail down to the 5micron = 0.005 mm now that is tiny with my optical configuration... so staytune for those whom may be interested..... I have posted this on the other fossil forum and I will do the same here.

"So, anything and everything to support that is good, but unless there's a general desire to include younger things, a Palaeozoic invertebrate focus would be good."
I say this knowing nothing about this site and as a outsider looking in, but if you do this, the main focus of this site will be so specific it will be hard to drum up any support here.
Just food for thought.

Thanks for joining Bob! I like the idea of Palaezoic fossil plants and invertebrates and the odd vertebrate... I already posted shark teeth here from the Devonian.... PL

Hi Bob, and thanks for the thoughts! I'm not at all saying that Mesozoic stuff is banned, or anything like that - just that the *main focus* should be Palaeozoic inverts and plants. In other words, younger (or older) things are very welcome, but as extras rather than the main part of it. Because of our area of expertise and interest here, we'd like to keep the main direction slightly different to most of the major fossil fora that are already out there. Even if your main interests are in the Mesozoic, I hope you can find lots to interest you... Cheers, Joe

An interesting note... the Admins and Moderators of "The Fossil Forum " removed all my postings pertaining to this site... this morning ... guess they do not want any competition.... kind of sad state as they are the losers especially people who are seeking ID on Cambrian to Silurian stuff can't even find their links to this site.... that is life in this competitive world. Personally I think the TTF are on selfish agenda.... rather than assist people gain palae knowledge... they stiffle it by cutting of links and references to this site. ... so I am going think real hard to the degree of support to TFF.... just venting a bit. That's a bit sad! I suppose it's always a fine line between a bit of advertising and what moderators will regard as spamming, but it's frustrating. Still, it's their site and they can choose to run it as they see fit. But let's face it, this is hardly being set up to rival them!
