Joe... Thanks for your thoughts on this... It gives me some more options to consider regarding these burrows...

and this looks like small Cyclopteris but the leafs are arranged like fern pinnules going up either side of the stem... Anyone got any idea's for an ID for these 2? Attachments:

Wow Steve... looks like a germinating seed with a baby plant emerging! Are these concretions? They remind me of Mazon Creek material.... and the cool loking plant at the bottom... good luck on the ID! Peter

This is a real set of beauties, Steve... I'm pretty sure the mystery one is a "fiddlehead" - an unfurling crozier of a fern (or seed-fern). We had a few specimens in Leeds, although none quite as striking as this.

I'm sure you're spot on for the strange Cylcopteris as well - remember that the genus is just the basal leaves of Neuropteris fronds, from what I've read. This would be the next-to-basal leaves, where they're becoming more standard.

Peter... Yes siderite concretions or nodules... Little capsules containing a moment in time from 300 million yrs ago... amazing really when you think about it... Joe... Thanks for taking a look... I hadnt thought of Spiropteris 'crozier of a fern' with it being seed shaped but these things can take on many stages of uncurling I'd imagine...and glad you like it... I will show you a couple more I have... The Cyclopteris shaped plant could also be Sphenopteris dimorpha Lesquereux ..I have been informed so I need to investigate this one further... Attachments:
