Greetings all... We proudly announce (well, you know what I mean) that we're starting up a local fossil club in Llandrindod. It's something we've been thinking about doing for a good while, and are finally getting round to. The general idea is to develop a group of amateurs locally who would like to deepen our understanding of the local fossil and geological history, with monthly meetings in the local museum, and field meetings as and when we see fit. Venue: Radnorshire Museum, Temple Street, Llandrindod Date: 1st Saturday of each month, starting in February 2014 Time: 10.30-12.30 Cost: none, but a donation to the museum would be much appreciated. How the meetings are organised, and what goes on, will depend on the people who turn up, and what they want. The idea is that it will develop organically, and just become an association of like-minded people, with lots of discussions, talks, presentations and sharing of finds. Obviously some of you are rather too far away to join in, but I know there are a few lurkers here, and you would all be very welcome to come along. Any questions, just ask.

Thanks Peter - much obliged. Normally we get mostly retired folks coming to this sort of do - I wonder whether that will change the demographic much... But I'm sure we'll be able to cope. ;D

I wish there were more professionals with the attitude and passion for the subject that drives you two...

Ah, but maybe that's why we're not professional... To be honest, I think those that do get into academia end up so run down from ever-increasing teaching and admin loads, that they just can't practically do much in the way of outreach. There are exceptions, of course, but not many.

Nooo... not HUGE, Peter... just a nice, manageable number. Hundreds would be a bit of a pain in a museum that can seat 30. ;D
Appreciate the sentiments, though - thanks Steve as well. There's apparently been a lot of interest locally, so we will have to see...

Awww... thanks, Reighan. Not quite sure what optimum is, to be honest, but we'll know it when we see it.
