Your not kidding there Joe.... It gives me plenty scope for the future .... Heres the latest addition to the collection.... initially when reached the sea bed it settled into deposits that formed into a shale layer and the back of the shell became preserved in the limestone layer that formed above it...

I didnt realise it was quite a big specimen to when I put it into the collection.... Probably the 2nd biggest shell I have had off this coast.... For my odd hours fossil prep here and there in the evenings I have thrown this chunk on the bench.... You can see the keel showing now I have chased it round and uncovered it.... Fingers crossed its a gooden....

Must be like unwrapping presents... only a bit slower! Fingers crossed, Steve.
We're heading off to Malta soon (for a holiday - honestly, no fossils!), so might be incommunicado for a bit.

Joe.... Malta or the adjacent island Gozo is known for its beautiful fossil shark teeth with pink enamel preservation.... It even does the odd Megalodon tooth... Certainly worth a gander....

Hi Peter... Glad to see your still knocking about... Seconded! I've been in France for a week on a research trip recently, so apologies for absence! Basically looking at the Fezouata collctions in Lyon, trying to fid overlooked sponges, and a few days down I the Montagne Noir sampling the local wine... sorry, sediments, to look for yet more sponges. First was successful the second, not so - such is life.

I got up to rain this morning and as I'm still in the middle of a landscaping project it was no good for digging so I headed for the beach.... Last time out I started seeing quite a few lyme collectors over here and some quite serious.... ( you know the types, dont speak to anyone ).... Fortunately this morning not a single person knocking about.... I know a spot about 80 foot up the cliff that chucks out Paracoroniceras Charsei's quite frequently but most are in a mudstone and quite fragile.... Fresh out on the drop this morning was this beauty and it looks like it was nodular in a very fibrous limestone.... Its certainly got potential but time will tell if its any good.... Probably start this later in the year.... Two Perigrines gave me a hard time to today.... They must have young.... I would of thought it was a bit late unless its a second clutch.... I remember walking round a corner of the coast seeing one years chicks fully feathered and fledged all sat in a line on a ledge about 20 foot up heads bobbing up and down as they do...It seemed an eternity that we were eyeballing one another, probably only seconds in reality...

Peregrines and ammonites... what a combination. I was stooped at by an angry parent once, up in the Welsh hills. Luckily it decided at the last second that I wasn't edible, but they're such gorgeous things that I probably wouldn't have begrudged it. What can one do but apologise and scurry away..?

I need to get me one of those! Frantically busy here, Steve, for all sorts of reasons. A bit pre-occupied at the moment, though... Alas, after six months in a perfect mansion (well, a flat with two bedrooms, three studies and a rock store!), the landlords are selling up, so we've got to move again. I'm sure we'll find something, but we're getting a bit nervous right now.

Hi Joe.... Sorry to hear about the predicament with the house sale... I hope you find something soon to take the pressure off and lets hope its equally accommodating to both your needs, or maybe better... Good luck house hunting....
